RIP Will Cullen Hart
Elephant 6 founder and Olivia Tremor Control member Will Cullen Hart has died, aged 53. The news was announced by Apples in Stereo and Elephant 6 affiliate Robert Schneider and came the same day that Olivia Tremor Control released two new songs—the first new music in 13 years.
“The Same Place” is characteristically trippy.
“The Garden Of Light” is a delightful piece of ‘60s drenched beauty. Infinitely catchy.
Back in 2012, Olivia Tremor Control lost another Elephant 6er, Bill Doss, to an aneurysm.
I was lucky enough to have seen the band live in L.A. at one of the most horrendous music festivals I ever attended. But looking back now, I’m glad I did.
Aside from compilation albums, Olivia Tremor Control only released two albums in the late 90’s (Dusk at Cubist Castle and Black Foliage). They’ve been long at work on a third album. Here’s hoping it will see the light of day, soon.
I highly recommend watching the documentary The Elephant 6 Recording Co. Even if you aren’t familiar with any of the bands, it’s a beautiful, chaotic testament to a unique time and place, and a group of people for whom creativity was a way of life.
